Dandy Croft , the path by the primary school, connecting Highfield Rd. and Out Lane is NOT a Bridle Way - Thank you
18th of February, 2024
The Parish Council has been contacted by several concerned parishioners about a horse/s or pony/ies being walked along Dandy Croft path. This is the path that runs between Highfield Rd and Out Lane .
Dandy Croft is NOT a bridle way and the Parish Council thanks all equestrians for observing this.
Many people including young children , parents with prams, parishioners in wheelchairs , dog walkers, highschool children etc... all use this path on a very regular basis and the recent appearance of piles of horse manure along this path, which everyone then has to try and avoid, is causing much unnecessary nuisance. It is also a potentially dangerous situation for anyone to be walking around the corner into Dandy Croft off Highfield Rd. ( see photo) to come face to face with a horse or pony.
If anyone has any further information at all to bear on this matter , please do not hestiate to contact the Clerk at the Parish Council on [email protected] . Thank you in anticipation of everyone's cooperation and common sense on this issue.
The Highway Code Rule 54
You MUST NOT take a horse onto a footpath or pavement, and you should not take a horse onto a cycle track. Use a bridleway where possible. Equestrian crossings may be provided for horse riders to cross the road and you should use these where available (see Rule 27). You should dismount at level crossings where a ‘horse rider dismount’ sign is displayed.
